General Application Guidelines

The following are given as a general guideline.  Please ask your dealer for specific application rates. You may need to adjust the rate of application and number of applications, depending on plant size, climate conditions, soil type, crop type and desired results. Always add Ocean Trace™ to the water before adding other items.

Preventing leaf burn, frost burn

On hot sunny days, spray early morning or late afternoon. Spraying on a hot, sunny day can cause leaf burn.

To be safe, don’t apply Ocean Trace™ if there is a chance of frost within the following 2 or 3 days.

Mixing ocean trace™ with other spray items

Ocean Trace™ is not compatible with most NPK fertilizers and some chemicals. (Always jar test.)

For chemicals: 1. Add chemicals to water 2. Mix in Ocean Trace™ 3. Mix in bulkier items (i.e. Calcium).

Mineral Fallout

You may have noticed some crystals in the bottom of your bucket of Ocean Trace™.  This is normal.

Once the jug is empty, you may throw the crystals (mostly Magnesium) on your field or add hot water, shake, and let sit in the sun for 3 to 4 weeks. The minerals will return to solution.  You may add this to your Ocean Trace™, or dump it in your tank the next time you spray.

Home and Garden Quick Reference Guide

For a single foliar application: Mix 1 Tbl. Ocean Trace™ to a gallon of water.

To spray monthly: Mix 2 tsp. per 1 gallon. To spray every other week: Mix 2 tsp. per gallon.

To spray every week: Mix 1 tsp. to 1 gallon.  Wet the leaves.

To prevent burning of certain types of flowers, reduce the amount of Ocean Trace™ by 50%.

For lawn applications: For an initial application, apply 3 ounces of Ocean Trace and 6 ounces of Huma-Tec per 1,000 sq. feet (a 20' x 50' area), diluted into at least a gallon of water per 1,000 sq. feet.

Further lawn applications may be done early in the spring and in the fall each year.   Apply 1 ounce of Ocean Trace and 3 ounces of Huma-Tec per 1,000 sq. feet (a 20' x 50' area), diluted into at least a half a gallon of water per 1,000 sq. feet.

OCEAN TRACE™ FOLIAR APPLICATION RATES

The spray should slightly dampen the leaves with minimal run off. A fine spray or mist is more efficient and therefore preferable. The finer the spray, the less amount of product is required. One customer noted that by using a highly efficient mist applicator, he only needed 1/4 of the Ocean Trace™ per acre.

Fruit & Nut Trees

A standard application is ¼ to ½ gal./acre, mixed with 30 to 300 gallons of water per acre—enough to coat the leaves without a lot of runoff.  The goal is to apply up to 4 applications per season.  If only one application will be made, do the following: ½ to 1 gal./acre for large trees; 1 qt. to ½ gal./acre for younger or smaller trees.

Berries, Vegetables

For single applications: ½ gal./acre is recommended, mixed in with 20 to 50 gallons of water per acre—enough to coat the leaves without a lot of runoff.

For 2 applications: 1 qt. to 3/8 gal./acre is recommended.

For 3 or more applications per season: A rule of thumb is to divide a gallon by the number of applications.

Blueberries and other chlorine sensitive berries: 1 to 2 pints at bud break; 1 to 2 pints at pollination.

Row Crops

1/10th to ½ gal./acre is recommended, depending on the type of crop, desired results, etc.  Mix with 10 to 30 gallons of water per acre--enough to coat the leaves without a lot of runoff.

For higher dollar crops: Two applications of 3/8 gal./acre.

For 3 or more applications per season: Apply 1 gal./acre total – divide this by the number of applications.

Sod, Pasture & Hay

1/10th to 1/2 gal./acre is recommended.  For hay, consider an application after green up and after each cutting.  For sod and heavily grazed pasture, consider 2 to 4 applications a year, depending on length of growing season, etc.

when should foliar applications be applied?

Find out when other fertility foliar applications (NPK, fish, seaweed, etc.) are recommended for the crop. These will likely be the best times to apply Ocean Trace™.

IN THE ROW, ON THE SEED

If you are set up to apply fertilizer in the row-on the seed, consider adding 1/10th gal. of Ocean Trace™ to the application. We highly recommend including 1 qt. to 1 gal. of AG-USA’s Huma-Tec as well.  A rule of thumb is 5 to 10 gallons of total mix in the row per acre.

Drip line applications

Apply ½ to 4 gal. of Ocean Trace™ per year through drip lines and dilute with a minimum of 50 parts of water to 1 part of Ocean Trace™.  Much higher dilution rates are fine.

Transplant solutions

Mix 1 part of Ocean Trace™ with 200 to 400 parts of water; then, mix in any other items you are using.

applying through an irrigation system

Flood irrigation systems: 1 to 4 gal./acre per year is recommended.

Sprinkler irrigation systems: Since this is not as effective as the foliar application method, it is wise to double the recommended amounts as listed under the above section, “Foliar Application Rates”.

fall soil applications

Trees: Noting that many trees pick up nutrients for the next year in the fall, a root zone application of 1 to 2 gal./acre in the fall is beneficial. (Apply before the tree becomes inactive.)  Consider adding AG-USA’s Huma-Tec to the mix to chelate the ocean minerals.

All other crops: Because soil applications are not as efficient as foliar applications, more Ocean Trace™ is required to obtain the same effect.  Recommendation: A fall soil application of 1 to 2 gal. of Ocean Trace™, along with 1 to 2 gal. of AG-USA’s Huma-Tec.

seed coatings, seed soaking

A small amount of Ocean Trace™ may help give a boost at germination time.  Mix one part Ocean Trace™ with 30 parts water.  NOTE: Mix ½ to 1 gal. of this mixture into each bushel of seed, depending on seed type. Depending on if your planter can work with it, certain seeds may be soaked for up to 24 hours in a 1 to 200 mixture.  Warning while soaking: Do not cover or seeds may germinate.

OBSERVED RESULTS

What to look for when using Ocean Trace™:  Results vary…. here are some observations from Ocean Trace™ users.

Ø       Some hybrids are more responsive than others.

Ø       In grains, look for increases in yields, test weights and protein.

Ø       Trees tend to be healthier, with better fruit set.  A healthy tree may be more resistant to disease and insect invasion and produce a better quality fruit. On nut trees, nuts tend to be larger and more flavorful.

Ø       Pasture and hay is more nutritious and favored by the animal.  Animals eat less, yet gain more weight. Some farmers report a substantial increase in growth rates.

Ø       Berries tend to be larger, and more flavorful.

Ø       Vegetables seem to respond especially well to Ocean Trace™.  Farmers have noted larger sizing, better yields, added nutrition, and better flavor.

Hydroponics: Do not add to hydroponics mix.  Rather, foliar feed:  weekly at 1 part to 300; bi-weekly, 1 to 150.

Wheat grass: Dilute 1 part Ocean Trace™ to 1,000 parts water, mist on grass or roots 1 to 3 times a day.
